Hub News : Aston Martin’s Cygnet Microcar Headed to America
Looks like the Cygnet, which is nothing more than a reworked Toyota iQ wearing an Aston Martin badge, is headed to the United States.
Aston Martin’s been hinting for a while now that it would build the crazy mashup. It always made sense for the European market, where an upscale urban commuter that beats big-city congestion charges might sell well.
But Automotive News, citing absolutely no one, says Aston Martin plans to bring the car to the States. When that’ll happen remains to be seen.
We’re waiting to hear back from Aston Martin.
Automotive News, among others, questions why Aston might offer the Cygnet here. We’d wager Aston wants to improve the average fuel economy of its fleet to meet the CAFE rules. The iQ reportedly gets Toyota Prius–like fuel economy, which would go a long way toward offsetting the numbers of a car like the Rapide or the DB9 Volante.
To build the Cygnet concept, Aston swaddled a Toyota iQ in loads of leather and added a grille with a grin like the Cheshire Cat. Under the skin, though, it’s got the same 1-liter, three-cylinder engine as the 56-mpg Toyota iQ.
That doesn’t mean it won’t have an Aston-like price tag, though. AE says it’ll run $35,000.
Hub Techno : Apple Redefines Remote Control — Now, It’s Your Cellphone
Actually, there are two remotes. The first is the little, minimalist, metal slab that will ship with the Apple TV.
The first iteration of Apple TV had the same little white infrared remote the company used to ship with laptops. It was great for clicking through a slideshow presentation. It wasn’t very good to keep around your living room, unless you stuck it in a bowl with your keys. It wasn’t a real remote, and most people hated keeping track of another remote anyway, especially one that got lost at the drop of a hat.
The new remote, released earlier this year and shipping with the new Apple TV, isn’t a lot different from that old white remote. It’s a nicer device. Like everything else Apple makes now, it’s longer, and it’s aluminum. It’s still got just six buttons: up, down, right, left, play/pause and menu.

Hub New Buzz : Gmail Saves E-Mail With ‘Priority’ Message Filtering
Gmail users can now choose to let Google sort their inbox by the most pressing messages, thanks to a new feature called Priority Inbox — think of it as a sort of reverse spam filter which bubbles messages to the top of the queue based on what you read and respond to.
In the full browser version of Gmail, the priority inbox is on top, followed by the items you have starred, and then finally the rest of your messages in a stream as usual, with most recent on top. While that might sound complicated, after testing it over the weekend, I’d be angry if I had to go back. The new feature went live at midnight ET.
The interface is less complicated than it sounds. Important and unread e-mails hold the top position, the most recent 10 e-mails you have starred to mark their importance sit in the center, and everything else not spam shows up in the bottom panel. The system is optional, and even when turned on, you can move to the “normal” inbox view by clicking on “inbox” in the left panel.”
Google has tested the feature internally and with thousands of regular users and companies that use Google Apps, according to Keith Coleman, Gmail’s product director.
“The main measure internally was that people were happier and got some e-mail sanity back,” Coleman said.
The feature is targeted at heavy e-mail users who get hundreds, if not thousands of e-mails, per day.
“When we launched Gmail the problem was spam versus non-spam,” Coleman said. “But the problem has evolved — now it’s the stuff in between that’s hard to manage.”
Coleman refers to messages such as deal offers, e-mail lists, and updates from companies you’ve purchased from as “bologna,” — basically mail you don’t mind getting, but which gets in the way of your critical messages from co-workers, bosses, clients and friends.
“This is like a spam filter for the bologna,” Coleman said.
The feature will show up as a red link in the top right corner of Gmail for users this week,
